We understand that having access to a vehicle is a part of the American experience for students attending university in the United States. We also understand that the credit system isn’t built to support individuals who don’t have established US-based credit and a Social Security number. Covina Volkswagen is proud to offer the Foreign College Student Program, which does not require a Social Security number and can facilitate the limited-term acquisition of a vehicle. Not only can we help you secure a vehicle, but we can also provide you with an exit strategy as you near your graduation date.

Program Eligibility

Applies to all foreign students who don’t have a Social Security number and no credit history. The customer must be enrolled in a 2-year or 4-year accredited U.S. college or university, pursuing one of the following degrees:

  • Associate’s
  • Bachelor’s
  • Master’s
  • Doctoral
  • Nursing degree (RN or LPN)

Eligible Vehicles

  • New and Near New Volkswagen vehicles
  • Certified Pre-Owned Volkswagen vehicles (Retail Financing Only)

Eligible Programs

  • Retail Financing, Driver’s Option, and Leasing Rates / Advance:
  • No credit history required; however, established history must be in good standing with no previous derogatory credit.

Term

  • Contract length will be limited to the anticipated graduation date as stated on the I-20 form.

Required Documentation

  • Current I-20 form (Certificate of Eligibility for Non-immigrant Student Status).  
  • Copy of Visa (Types: F1 or J1) showing expiration date (with photo blacked out).  
  • Copy of US Social Security card*.  
  • Copies of three months minimum of bank statements or other documentation that substantiates the stability of funds flow over time sufficient to service this obligation.  
  • Contact information (school name, address, and Registrar’s phone number) to allow for direct verification of enrollment.  
  • Documentation to verify the address and phone number.  
  • Two complete personal references (including the address and the phone number) who reside in the US and whom VWFS can contact directly.  
  • Copy of completed and signed Volkswagen Financial Services approved credit application.

Other Program Details

  • Qualification under this program is subject to verification prior to approval.  
  • Customer eligibility is limited to one open account with Audi Financial Services or Volkswagen Financial Services.  
  • Customer is eligible for these program benefits only once per degree.
  1. 1This program is not intended for individuals who are in the US as Diplomats, Embassy Employees, Lawful Permanent Residents, Visitors, Students, or have Asylum Status.
  2. 2An exception can be made if the applicant holds a TN-1 permit (free trade professional), only for Canadian citizens who live and work in the United States for up to one year at a time and have a renewable status for additional periods of one year each, with no ceiling on the total years a person with TN status can work in the United States.
  3. 3Effective June 11th, 2020, in the state of Washington, VWFS will not accept any documents showing the citizenship or immigration status of a consumer, nor will such status be considered when determining a consumer’s creditworthiness. These are the program guidelines as of 11/12/24. These are subject to change at any time. Please see the dealer for complete details.
